PETROLEUM NEWS.

The chairman of the 'i'.uuuaki Fetioleuin Co., Ltd., sends us the usual weekly report as follows: — fhe work oi cleaning out No. 1 bore commenced on Tuesday, and pumping was continued up to Thursday, witli varying results ot oil, mud and water, Out on Thursday morning, after pumping about a barrel, oil work was stopped to make some alterations at the eugme, when the oil started to llow between the 3iu pump pipe and the liiu casing, and llowed out about 200 gallons in ten minutes. The pumping is still being continued so as to relieve the pressure, and when this is sullicieutly overcome, the top of the well will be . uncovered and the sand pump put down to remove the silt, etc., of which there must be now a big accumulation. At No. 2, the work of drilling and pumping out the casings has been going all the week, and the Gin casing is again down within 12ft of the seat from which it was drawn.

At No. 3 well, the casing has been gradually lowered, and every likely streak tried, but so far without success. The bore is now down 2287 feet. The casing has all been got out of No. 4 hore, but not without a great deal of difficulty. There has now been 52ft of lOin casing put in place of the Bin, bo as to be better able to cope with the sand at the 1000 ft to 1700 ft levels.
