THE KWVATIRI WRECK. llobart, August 23. _ At the inquiry into the wreck of the Kawatiri at Macquarirc Heads, Captain Crawford deposed that he (bought with the prevailing wind the bar would be smooth. It proved wry rough. It was then too late to turn back. The only chance of safety lay in going full steam ahead. He had previously gone in ill rougher water. Othei sea captains, the pilot, and the harbormaster were of the opinion that , the water at tiie time of the wreck was [ not r-j .i'li "nongh to prevent Captain I Crawford bringing the Kawatiri in.
THE MISSING CONSTANCE CRAIG. Per Press Association. Auckland, August 23. The steamer Chelmsford ■ returned this morning, having searched the vicinity of the Great Barrier Island for traces of the Constance Craig or her survivors. At Whangaparapara a catch and boat chocks were found. The former has been identified as belonging to the Constance Craig.
THE STANLEY RE-FLOATED. Per Press Association. Napier, August 23. Advice has been received that the schooner Stanley was successfully floated off Or-wa beach, and is being towed to Auckland. Apparently she is undamaged.
