OPOTTAKE. On Friday night in the Foresters' Hall a farewell social was tendered to Mr 0. T. Yardlcy, who is leaving for the Waikato. Mr Armstrong, on behalf of their numerous friends, presented Mr and Mrs Yardley with a handsome eloek. The bowlers' bail, which is the annual function here, took place last night, and proved very successful, fully 150 couple being present. The hall had been most beautifully decorated, under the supervision of Mr F. des Forges, and the scene at night was very prettj', the decorations harmonising with the many pretty dresses worn by the ladies and the more sombre garb of their partners, producing an effect that will be long remembered by those present. The"lloor was also in perfect order, whilst the music as provided by Messrs Kmnvlos (piano), Miss Cross (2), Messrs Duncan, Higham and Markham (violins), Fischer (cornet), and Markham ('cello), was the liest that has been heard in the hall lor some time. A recherche supper was provided by the ladies, who had spared no pains to ensure the success of this necessary feature. Messrs Armsliong, Des Forges, O'Meara and Burton •wide capablo M.'bC, and carried out their arduous duties so ably that strangers were soon made to feci very much at home, and one and all had an enjoyable time.

A meeting of the Opunnke Football Club is to be held on Saturday night to dißcuss matters in connection with the proposed new football division. There is no doubt the new arrangement should greatly facilitate and encourage football in this district. It will do awav with the great amount of travelling that tho Opunakc Club has had to do in the past, and should he the means of bringing out now blood, as four or five lea ma will he playing in the cup competition* where only one team is playing now.

RAHOTU. Another of the series of euchre partics in aid of the funds of the Rahotu Ihill eventuate on Wcdoesday evening, and proved very successful. Despite the inclemency of the evening there was a very fair attendance. Euchre was indulged in until about 10 p.m., when at the count-up the winners proved to be— Udy's prize (a cruet)', Miss E. Morrow; gentleman's prize (stirrup irons), Mr J. Cnreiu. Supper was handed round and done full justice to, after which the hall was cleared and dancing commenced, and was kept lip with vigor until about 1 iuii. Excellent music was provided by .Miss A. Morgan and Mr W. Sy moils. Mr J. Rothery made a capable M.C During the evening Mr Brown contributed , a song.

Another shooting competition for a trophy was held at the local range last Saturday, the winner being Mr E. Harrison. As he also won the last competition, the trophy becomes his own property, the conditions being that the trophy must be won twice in succession or three times at intervals, Mr 00. I'nllen, who has been resident here for some years, is, I understand, shortly leaving for Inglewood. A bazaar is fo be held in aid of the Rahotu Hall funds early next year.
