ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Per Press Association. Auckland, August 22. Thomas Joseph Gaudin, a well-known fanner of Waikato, was accidentally shot at Matakohe. Deceased, who was 32 years of age, recently purchased a farm at Matakohe, and only took occupation on Monday. He was found dead, but no particulars are available to indicate how the accident occurred. Deceased, who was the youngest son of Mr F. Gaudin, of Auckland, served with the first New Zealand contingent in South Africa. He leaves a widow and child.
Rotorua, August 22. A man named Patrick McGowan, 3G years of age, who recently arrived from South Africa, was drowned in the Lobster Bath, Ohinemutu. He went to bathe with another man. While in the water he complained of faiutness. His companion tried to pull him out, but failed. McGowan was drowned before assistance arrived. He is supposed to be a commercial traveller. _ _ i-mm^^ja ' Napier, August 22. • A young man named Michael Hogan, about 27 years of age, was accidentally killed at Rissiugton this morning through a dray upsetting and falling ou aim when engaged in carting chaff. llonedi.i, August 22. The adjourned inquest ou the bodies of Ruby Haberfield' and Jacob 'laieki, her infant son, the victims of the fatal (ire at Port Chalmers on July 7, was : held to-day, when the jury returned a 1 verdict that Ihe victims were aeeidnn--1 tally burned to death, but there was no 1 evidence to show how the fire had been • caused. 1 Palmerston K., August 22. The inquest on the body of the boy - Sidney Carson, who met his death through the inflicting of a wound caused i by firmg a pistol, the jury returned a -verdict of accidental death.
