FIRES.

Per Press Association. Invercargill, August 17. A fire gutted the premises owned by Xichol Bros., at the BlulT. l'riee and Bullied, drapers, suffered a little from water. The building was insured for I £7OO in the Alliance and Xorth Queensland; Thomson and Coy.'s stock for ! £2IOO in the Victoria, and £IOOO in file Guardian, and Price and Bulleid'B stock for £7OO in the Commercial Union. Just before midnight on Saturday a fire was discovered at the rear of Mr F. W. Hall's premises in Devon street. Some rubbish became ignited, and set fire to a tin of uuphUia, which blazed furiously. The fire brigade was quickly on the scene, aud played on to the Haines, but the water scattered the napllm and made things worse for a time. The fire was easily extinguished before it could reach the main block of the building.
