Under the heading of "An Industry Threatened," au American exchange stales that the district of iSouth Dakota, which has'lor long been notorious for the laxity of its divorce laws, contemplates a reform. South Dakota has long been known throughout the United States as a "divorce resort," the case willi which divorces are granted there arising from botli the liberal grounds of action and the briefness of domicile reunited. Although it is not proposed to restrict the grounds lor divorce, the local Legislature has been asked to grant a referendum of the citizens regarding the term of domicile. According (o reports, this now stands at six weeks, any petitioner who chooses to spend that period iu Dakota being regarded as genuinely domiciled by the. Courts. The proposal is to extend this term to a year, bringing South Dakota into line with nearly all the other parts of the Ju-public. The referendum will probably be held in November, 1908.
