DRAMATIC MURDER TRIAL.
130 V DEFENDS IIIS SISTER'S liONOlt. Dramatic scenes were witnessed on June 2 lth at the opening of the trial of Carlos Waddington, son of the ex-Chilian Charge d'All'aires, on a charge of murdering Senor lialmaceda, Secretary of the Chilian Legation, at Brussels, last February.
Vi addmgton, who is only nineteen years old, shot lialmaceda, "whom he accused of jiltiiiy his only sister When Waddington appeared before fie judge between two gendarmes, a murmur of sympathy went round the court. lie does not look more than lirteen, and his face wore an expression of aeule anguish. In the afternoon Waddington was interrogated, the examination being coilducted with decided hostility towards him.
"l do not regret my act,' 1 lie said, "iiy father has always told nie that I had doue my duty." "Vou Chilians have a strange conception of duty," the president remarked. "There are no Chilians here/' replied jL.it re Jujsou, one of Utu counsel ,ur the deleuce. "There is a deserted woman, a brother, and a father."
In answer to one question, Waddington said he bought the revolvers because lialmaceda threatened to kill his father.
