SUPREME COURT.
Wellington, August la. I Archibald McNeill, who was sent forward to the Supremo Court for sentence 'us an habitual offender, had a long record of conviction, but asked for a chance to reform. His Honor said it was clear accused couid not make good his promise to reform. Unless restrained he would continue in his evil courses. He declared prisoner to be a habitual olfender and ordered him to be detain-, ed in a reformatory prison at end of the current sentence for false pretences. Prisoner protested against the sentence as unjust and disgraceful. At the Supreme Court to-day, William Henry Oakunfull, who had pleaded guilty to receiving stolen money, was admilliHl to probation for two years. Geo. Ferris, alias John Anderson, John Byron Hamilton, and William ltobert Sinclair, alias Connolly were convicted of breaking into Laery and Co.'s store and stealing £4l. They were deferred for sentence. Other charges against the prisoner have to be heard.
Christehureh, August 15. At the Supreme Court to-day, William Kirk was convicted of assaulting a'eonstable and sentenced to two years' imprisonment.
