QUACK'S LITERATURE. Melbourne, August 14. Attention was called In the Federal House of Representatives to the action of the New Zealand Post Office prohibiting the transmission by post of pamphlets from medical quacks. The Postmaster was asked whether he was aware that this prohibition was aimed "against Melbourne and Sydney linns. The Postmaster replied that he was enquiring about the businesses mentioned in order to satisfy himself as to whether action similar to that of New Zealand should not be taken.

PROPOSED INCREASE IN SALARIES.

Melbourne, August 14. In the Federal House of Representatives, the Treasurer, Sir W. Lyne, intimated that if it was the desire of members he would bring down by Clovernoi's Message a Bill proposing to iuereiise mcmliers' allowances to £OOO a year, provided the measure would not be regarded as a party one. Received 15th, 12.15 a.m. Melbourne, August 14. The House is discussing a iv-oluti.in in favor of introducing a Bill to increase members' allowances.
