It is surmised that this was intended to be used to transfer the head and legs from the hag. Madame Levin had lost heavily in gambling at Moult; Cario. She told her chambermaid on one occasion that she was unable to resist the attraction of the tables.
MRS GOOLD CONFESSES. CHARGES HER HUSBAND WITH THE MURDER. A HORRIBLE RECITAL. Received 14th, HUD p.m. Paris, August 14. Mis Gould, replying to the examining I magistrate, confessed that her husband 'murdered -Mrs Levin with an Indian knife.
She was not present, but on entering the room saw Airs Levin dead on the floor, and her (Goold's) husband covered with blood.
He implored her to assist him to avert all suspicion. He was too dlhnk to begin cutting up the remains, and this was done next day. She was unable to explain why her husband killed the woman. GOOLD ALSO CONFESSES. ADMITS HE STABBED LEVIN. 'IN A DRUNKEN FRENZY. Received 14th, 11.17 p.m. Paris, August 14. Goold confessed to the magistrate that the day before the murder Mrs Levin asked him to lend her 500 francs. She came to the villa, and he paid the money. She asked for another 500 francs, explaining she wanted to give it to a banker.
He refused, and heated words followed, and, in a lit of rage, accentuated by drink, he stabbed her in the back. Only one blow was struck.
His wife did not participate, and he alone cut the body up, and placed the dismembered parts in the trunk and valise.
Robbery was not the motive, for he had ample means to live.
