SHOT BY A STRANGER.
MARRIAGE PROMISE DEMANDED AT REVOLVER I'OLVf. Geneva, June l'J. Mile. .Freda, the daughter of a wealthy Swiss painter, was yesterday shot by a man named Joseph Vigano, twenty-three years of age, who was unknown to her. She was walking in a wood above the little town of Davesco, when Vigano met her, and pointing a revolver at her, demanded that she should promise to
marry him. She politely declined, wherupon the man fired at her five times, and then with the sixth, blew out his own brains. Mile. I'reda, who was found some time later, lying helplessly near the dead body of the man, had been struck by three bullets, none of which, however, had injured a vital part. She is expected to recover.
