BENZINE EXPLOSION.
MAN BADLY INJURED. Per Press Association. Dunedin. August 12. William Trott, about 30 years of age, an electrical engineer, employed at the Dunedin railway station, was badly injured this morning as a result of the explosion of benzine. The accident occurred in the electrician's workshop, a I wooden building formerly used as a signal-box. A few minutes after Trott entered the building there was an explosion and loud cries, and Trott,' blazing from head to foot, came rushing down the stairs and precipitated himself through the window sash, where he stuck. He was extricated by a party of railway employees, and was sent to the Hospital. Trott was terribly disfigured, and nearly roasted, but retained consciousness. There was a stove and two tins of benzine in the room, one of which exploded, covering Trott with liquid flame. He is a widower, with two children, and has only been in the. colony a year. His condition is critical. The building was not ' much damaged. Trott had no idea how the explosion occurred. A departmental ■ enquiry is to be held.
