The Wai-piiku-iti bridge bad been completed and looked well. The road to this bridge required lifting and re-grading; this would take altout 200 yards of earth. Tre AVaiwakailio bridge should lie completed liy next week. He hoped to have this bridge ready for traffic bv the end of next month, and would idvise that the floor be asplialte with at least four inches of good tar asphalt. This would cost about £BO. It. would not be wise to put metal difeetly en the concrete work without a, softer maerial to take off the Jar to wlnel traffic, and form a wearing surface. The whole of the centering had been taken from the 0 i.kitra bridge, and it stripped well. This bridge was one of t.ie longest of its kind. beiiiL' (12 feef span of ribbed flat plate, reinforced with steel bars and expanded metal. He estimated this work had been done at 5d per yard. As the work was progressing cheaply and satisfactorily, be would advise that it be continued on the same lines and under the same management. Under contract no specification would eovcr requirements. As the bridge was in a very unsafe condition, in fact dangerous, lie recommended that arrangements be made to ha.ve the road metalled as soon as possible. He had taken fresh levels of Oakura, hill deviation, and had plans and specifications ready. Tenders could be in by next meeting of the Council. Levels bad been taken of several lines of road for the proposed Junction road deviation at Cpiohn's hill. He had a line laid out which was very direct, and the cuttings were for the most part side cuttings. The height of bridge required would be 40 feet, and cost of formation much less than the others. A section of this was prepared. The length of the new road was only 34 chains, and part of this was now an unformed roid. This road was practically a continuation of Elliot street, and ran up the lfenui river for some distance. The "Vad.-s would I,C 1 in 15.
