A CHRISTCHURCH SENSATION.
Per Press Association. Christchurch, August 5. A sonsation was caused here by two boys, finding on Sumner Hill, on Saturday! a man's coat and vest, with a watch and chain anil a letter half out of a pocket, addressed "Mrs A. W. Nelson, Union street, Christchurch." The boys took the letter to a constable. It was found to purport that the writer, Arthur Wellesley Nelson, intended to take poison and throw himself over the cliffs when the poison commenced to work. A search was made, but no body was found. The swell prevented the lifeboat crew from landing, but a sailor let down by ropes from the clifl's searched every possible place. No signs of the body were found. Wellesley was 'kiiowii by'other names to the police. He was bound to appear at the Supreme Court on August 12 on a charge of selling drugs for illegal purposes. The police are sceptical' over the incident. Nelson is the man who, under the name "Demos," performed a sensational cycling feat at the Exhibition water-chute.
