WELLINGTON KACES. SATURDAY'S RESULTS. Pet Press Association. Wellington, Julv 27. For the concluding day of the sVepiechase meeting showery weather was experienced. The attendance was Lvrgo and the going heavy. The sum of £18.334 passed through the tute, making £52,U30 for the meeting, against £20,876 last yvar (two days). The winning double on the July Steeplechase and Winter Oats paid £l9. After tie Onslow Handicap, R. Milne, ri&r of kit. Claiiner, lodged a complaint against 11. Cairns, rider of Kaiuku, for alleged interference. • Th • stewards decided to s ispend Cairns during their pleasure, Results:—
Onslow Handicap—Jolly Friar 1, Gawain 2, St- Claimer 3. " ALso started: Dc Witte, Chicane, Kaiuku, Silver Si-11. Won comfortably by three lengths. Time, 1.23 4-5. Divs., £3 12s and" £1
Crofton ILick Handicap—William 1, Tangaroa 2, Compass 3. Also started: Gauze, Iceland, Hinupai, Grand Circle, Scenery. Lady Lethe, Papatiwa. Won by a length. Time, 1.30 1-5. Divs., 12 15s and ISs. Tliird Hack Hurdles—St. Albert 1, Top Rose 2, Southern Cross 3. Also started: Landlock, Golden Comb. Waiou (coupled with St. Albert), Roval Blue. Dulcinea, Playmate, Gold Guard, md Catch-'em. Won by three lengths. Time. 3.5 1-5. Divs., «•> Us and C 4 Bs. July Steeplechase—Haydn 1, Khamn' 2. Needlework 3. Also started: Aquilln. Ai|iiil!o led for alwut six furlong;,where Haydn took charge. At the end of a round he was joined by Khania. the other pair being right out of it. Haydn and Khania raced on level terms until the bash fend' at the five furlongs post wan cleared, where the former drew away. Khania was being ridden coming into the straight. Haydn cleared the laßt obstacle with a good lead, ind scored a popular win by two lengths, Needlework a hundred yards away. Aqnillo pulled up entering the straight. Time, 6.15 2-5. Div., £2 13s.
Winter Oats Handicap—Seaman 1, Kuku 2, Mataari 3. Also started: Montigo, Kurawaka, Clanehattan, Whakawehi. Shrapnel Shell, Chatterer, Lady Warwick, Hatley, Naptha, Rosegrore. Mataari and Whakawehi were prominent for half way. Hatley dropped back bejten at the home bend, where Mataari Kuku and Seaman comprised the loading division. T'e latter came away at the distance and won easily by fonr lengths, a good race for second between Kuku, Mataari and Whakawehi- Time, 1.55 1-5. Divs., £1 14s and £2 14s.
Final Hurdle Race—Ben Johnson 1, Merriwai 2, Cavalry 3. Also started: Pushful, Lo Beau, Sardonyx. Repulse, Levant. Ben Johnson led throughoil. and won by four lengths. Time, 3.30 2-5. Divs., *£2 10s and £3 19s. Kai Ora Hack Handicap—Clem 1, Oblivion 2, Aotea 3. Also start-d: Truthful. Pearb'e. Barley, Hillspring. Defeat. Won by a length. Time, 1.24 2-5. Di\s. £3 19s and £2 2s.
