FOOTBALL.
THE ALL BLACK' TOUR. AN EASY WIN FROM QUEENSLAND. Received 24th, S.G p.m. Brisbane, July 24. The football match, New Zealand v. Queensland, was played on the Cricket (•round this afternoon. The weather was perfect and the attendance about 8000.
Queensland won the toss, and Francis kicked off for the visitors. Canifl'e returned out to the half-way Hag, where Mitchinson gathered up the ball, and j passed it on to Roberts, who handed it mi to Wallace, then to Fryer, who crossed the line. Wallace failed with the kick at goal. New Zealand 3 Queensland (l A few minutes later, from the same position in the field, Roberts got possession, and whipped the ball on to Wal- . 'ice, and after the ball had passed through Mitehinso'h's hands, Fryer again took it, and scored a further try. Wallace failed to increase the score. New Zealand 0 Queensland ° From the kick-off, the local team shifted the scene of operations into the visitors' territory, but the effort availed them little, as the All Blacks were giiin soon aggressive, and Roberts, snapping 'up the oval, passed to Nicholson, who sent it along to Francis, enabling the latter to register the third try for the visitors. Spencer was on this occasion entrusted with the kick at goal, but he, too failed. New Zealand !) Queensland 0
For a brief space the visitors were on the defensive, but Booth relieved by a fine run into the local men's 25, where he was stopped by Carmichael, the local full back. Fryer, who was following up smartly, dived at the ball, and crossed the line. Spencer again failed to increase the score. New Zealand 12
Queensland 0 When in play again, a local man, Parkinson, took the ball over the line, but did not go out, and, turning, ran off and scored. Carmichael failed at goal. The New Zealanders declare the try should not have been allowed, as bouncing is not permitted.
New Zealand 12 Queensland :i Half-time then sounded, and the second spell was opened by Watson kicking oft*.
Wallace took the ball, and he found the touch line. An interval of uninteresting play followed, chiefly characterised by marks and scrams, and from one of the latter, the ball went out. On being thrown in, the All Blacks, with the ball at" toe, rushed over the visitors' goal Hue, where Francis fell on it, and scored, but failed to add the major points. New Zealand 15 Queensland 0 For some time after this the local men were compelled to act on the defensive, and were being very hardly pressed, and were only relieved occasionally by fortunate kicks by Carniiehael. After desultory play in the centre, an exchange of kicks saw the scene removed to the Queensland corner, where Francis again got possession, and put up another. Roberts had a kick at goal, but. like his predecessors, failed. New Zealand 18 Queensland 3
No sooner was the ball in play than the visitors invaded the home territory, and looked like scoring, but Carniiehael relieved by kicking up the field, and Eckhold marked. The ball was placed for Wallace, but no goal resulted, the ball going wide. Queensland, from a scrum, kicked into the centre, where Wallace stopped the ball with his body, but, recovering it, broke away, and when being tackled passed on the blind side to Spencer, who sent it back, and the All Blacks forced the game down to the line, where Wallace once more got possession, and whipped it across to Mltchinson, who gave it to Fryer, who scored. Spencer took the kick, and registered the only goal of the day. New Zealand 23 Queensland 3 For the remainder of the game, play continued in the home territory, and when the whistle sounded the score read as above. THE PROFESSIONAL TEAM. Per Press Association.
