CHEAPER CABLING.
PCESTIOX OF PRESS CONCESSION'S. Melbourne, July 20. In the Federal Senate Senator Pcarce Mked if it was correct that Ministers intended to approach other Governments interested in the Pacific cable with a view to reducing press rates, so that more Commonwealth news could be published in European papers. Be said lie favored Sir W. Lyne's suggestion that Commonwealth newt should be Bent over tte Pacific cable by th« Commonwealth Parliament, which would then have some control over the news cabled.
The Vice-President replied that the question of a reduction in cable rates lad not been considered at any Cabinet meeting he had attended, but the Government had had under consideration from time to time the advisability of supplementing news sent to Britain on lit the course of an interview on the question of reduced cable rates via the Padfic, the Federal Postmaster (Mr Chapman) said that with very little trouble the cable rates could be reduced for the press, public, and Government messages. The Government was consMering the whole matter, but nothing kid been decided, as so many interests we involved, Pacific messages having to paM over other lines.
