MOA ROAD BOARD.
llie Moa Road Board met 011 Saturday. Present: Messrs 11. Trimble (chairman), C. Young, Capper, Chamney, Laurence, and .Uarsk. The TiSranaki County Council wrote that the foreman was attending to llle \\ aiongona bridge 011 the llursthouse road.—The Chairman reported that the bridge liad been shortened and a filling mule; but the filling needed metalling. ■—The Council will he a<ked why the metalling had not been done. Mr S. Chapman, Tariki, was given leaw to remove forty or fifty y.ixds ol earth from the Surrey road in front of his property, the work to be done under the supervision of the foreman. The chairman announced that tile incident insurance policy bad been renewed. The premium was £24 9s Od, as against £8 18s last year. The increase was due to an agreement among the insurance companies, and the rates were now uniform. Mr A. Kerr claimed £1 10s for carting over and above his Ross road repairing contract.—Deferred pending the report from the foreman.
The chairman delivered the report of the committee act lip to meet the ratepayers in connection with the proposed loan ol' £3OOO for improving the Lincoln, Wortley, Davis Richmond, and Vork roads. They met the ratepayers on July 13th and discussed the proposals very fully. The meeting decided that £IOOO should he allocated to that part of the road between luglewood and the corner of Richmond road, and the balance between the different roads interested according to the ratable value of each road. The committee recommended immediate application be made to the Treasury for permission to raise the lo;im, and that the proposed deviation of Lincoln road at, the hill just outride luglewood be carried out., provided that favorable terms could be arranged with the owners of the land. The committee further recommended a slight extonsion of the proposed rating waa. —Vlie report was adopted, and ut?ps will be taken to raise the loan. The Receiver of Land Revenue notified that £l7 17s 6a, accrued "thirds,'' had been lodged to credit of the Bo.vrd's account, and the Land .Board approved the scheme of expenditure.
A statement submitted showed that in the February-May period Mr S. Baigent carted 13.'i,031i feet of timber, for wthieh the road levy was £ll Is Bd.
Messrs W. T. Jennings and 11. Oki;y, M.li.R.'s, acknowledged receipt of the Board's recommendations re proposed local bodies' legislation. The Treasury notified that interest amounting to C 665 IDs 2d was due m the total debt of ,1)29,248 3s ;ld borrowed under the "Local Bodies Loans Act."'
Foreman Hoskin reported that owing to illness Mr Swan was not able to make very smart propria with his Egmont rond anil l/pland road contracts. The clerk'n monthly statement showoil the general account had a deficit balance. of £i£47 Os sd, and loans account a credit of £2oU (is 7d.
Foreman Jones and a laborer \ivre grafted an extra, shilling a day for tunnelling on Norfolk road. Mr Welham, contractor for stone at TCaimata, will be notified that the contract is incomplete, and must be finished in a week.
Foremen's reports were considered, and ordered upon as follow*: Bedford road, six studs to be placed in bridge, Lcpper void repairs, Egmont road «v----pairs, Knipi road culvert to be renewed, culvert io be rectified on York roid. general repairs on Bedford and WortW road*.
Improvements on King road, by Air Longstrtff, will b* effected wlv>n time permits. Tenders will be called for -10 yards of stone on the Norfolk road West. On the motion of Messrs Channey and Marsh, the Board decided to levy a general rate of i/,d in the £ and */ ( d to piv interest on the general loan t;f £5160.
Fresh fenders will be called for the ohns road contract.
