Mi»s Freda Bent, teacher in the Opunake school, is applying for an extension of her sick leave. Mr Coekcroft, assistant teacher at the Central School, has received a more remunerative appointment as a first assistant in a llawke's Bay school, and has resigned his position here. The Central School authorities, the teachers, and the pupils are sorry to learn of his decision, Tor he has become a prime favorite in the school. At the same time, he is lo lie congratulated on his promotion. On Thursday evening, at the Grosvenor Hotel, a presentation was made, to Air C. ft. Penman by the local railway stall'. Air Simmonds, coaching foreman, made the presentation, and referred to the fact that Mr Penman was leaving for Palmerston North after about a couple of years' service at New Plymouth. During .that time he had become very popular amongst his fellow workers, and they took this opportunity of presenting him with a travelling big and a greenstone pendant for Mrs Penman, as a token of esteem. Messrs Morison, Seavright, Thomson, Barry, and Trceby all testified to Air Penman's good qualities. Mr Penman suitably replied. • '<
