"TOO MUCH MOTHER-IN-LAW."

Mrs Edward Kelly, the mother of Mrs Frank J. Gould, of New York, believing that she is grossly wronged by an accusation attributed fo Mrs Gould "that there is too much mother-in-law in his household,' has told the story of the matrimonial troubles of her daughter to a newspaper interviewer. With tears in her eyes and a choking voice, Mrs Kelly assured him that, as far as she was concerned, it was merely the case of a loving mother trying to save the daughter from a broken heart. Mr Gould, she explained, contracted tho habit of "filling my daughter's home with friends. 1 won't say what kind of friends. Some day it will all come out. The friends order my daughter's servants about and do whatever they please, and Mr Gould simply Ignores his wife's protests." The indignanjt mother-in-law declares that she opposed the marriage from the beginning, but has spared no pains to preserve family peace. Unfortunately, Mrs Frank J. Gould; when shown her mother's remarks, vigorously observed, "perfect rot." Whatever trouble existed, she added, was largely due to her mother's quick temper. "Mr Gould and myself settled any little differences without the slightest bitterness. We arc absolutely in accord as to the education of our children, and other matters."

According to the World, Mrs Kelly visited Mr Gould, and demanded a public retraction of the "too much mother-in-law" statement which appeared in Town Topics. Mr Gould, instead of complying, called her a foolish old woman. This so angered Mrs Kelly that she ordered her daughter to Immediately quit the house, and Mrs Gould, refusing to obey, Mrs Kelly left, vowing vengeance. Now Mr Gould declines to issue an official denial fo the statement that he has forbidden his mother-in-law to enter his homo.
