FATAL EXPLOSION ON A BATTLESHIP.
FURTHER DEATHS OCCUR.
New York, July 10. Details of the Georgia's explosion show that while a charge of 100 pounds was being lifted from a hoist, two seamen noticed the cover smouldering and shouted a warning. l'liey then threw themselves on the floor. A terrific burst of flame followed, and the turret was filled with smoke and noxious gases. A number tried to escape through the hatchway. Rome gained the deck and jumped into the sea. The chaplain was the first to e; tor the turret. Two more deaths of injured are reported. Six others are in a precarious condition. It is suggested that a spaik from the Georgia's funnel ignited the powder. The concussion and fire injured all who were in the turret.
