TARANAKI HOSPITAL BOARD.
The Taranaki Hospital Hoard met 011 Monday. Present: Messrs J. 11. Parker (chairman), Jan. Burgess, Fred. Bellringer, C. Andrews, C. O'Sullivan, and U. 11. McDonald, MONTHLY REPORT. Tlie medical superintendent's report stated tliat during the June-July mouth 2(i patients had been admitted to the hospital; 35 were discharged, and four died, leaving U(i in the institution. There wore four scarlatina cases in the isolation ward, and )ive patients in the consumptive annexe. LIGHTING. The chairman reported that during the past month there had been considerable i rouble with the gas illumination. On one occasion in particular an urgent operation was being performed at night, and the lights went out and the Operation hud to be completed by candle-light. The trouble came from the meter.

The • cause ot this was the great destruction • of mantle* by draughts; for, of course i the hospital doors and windows could i not be kepi closed. The Hoard decided to call tenders for the installation of the electric light. HONORARY DENTIST. Mr A. D. Gray who had acted as honorary dental surgeon to the hospital for the past 18 years, and who had willingly given hia services, wrote that he was now called on in suth a number of eases that lie thought a fee should be allowed as in the ease of the honorary medical stall'.--Consideration was deferred pending receipt of information. CONSUMPTIVE ANNEX]':. The Hawera Board.asked to be allowed to send consumptive patients to the New Plymouth annexe—Left in the hands ut the committee, with power to act. OLD PEOPLE'S HOME. The llawera Board wrote tluit they wislu-d to send to the Home a man who was practically .blind, and was unable to look alter himself. JIo was in receipt of the old age pension.- -They will be in- ' formed that blindness is uo bar. ihe manager of the Home reported that there were ;;o iuuutes (25 male and 5 lemalej in the institution.
