EMPLOYERS' FINAL CONCESSIONS.

Received 5th,'11.17 p.m. Sydney, July 5. The conference over tlie coal lumpers' dilliculty resumed. After some fencing regarding certain non-union foremen, the chairman of the Lumpers' Union declared that if the conference prove abortive, the responsibility would rest on the shoulders'of the employers. The employers' reply to the men's demands submitted on Wednesday, was then read. It stated that the steam Colliers. Owners and Stevedores' Association had decided that all the former shall be appointed by and absolutely under the jurisdiction of the employers, and cease to be members of the Coal Lumpers' Union. It declined to grant any increase for night overtime, but to pay 2s 3d per hour for Saturday afternoon, and promised to restrict Sunday work.as much as possible compatible with carry-

ing on the work of tlio port. The reply acceded to the request tliat no work be done during meal hours, and declined - to giant full rates for the time the men may be kept waiting, but if ordered to a . job which does'not eventuate, the em-" ployers arc willing to give each disappointed man ss; and where ordered to a job which' does not commence at the hour stated, to pay the hourly wage until work begins, or the men are sent home. : It agreed to make eight yards the limit for two carriers, instead of seven as asked. If these proposals are accepted, an agreement will be drawn up asking the Arbitration Court to vary the awards in accordance therewith.' The conference adjourned to allow the [ lurfipers' delegates to consider the pro? , posals. On re-assembling, the employers' ; spokesman, in reply to a question, said , these were the employers' final proposals. , The conference adjourned till Monday, the delegates in the meantime to place the employers' proposals before the Coal lumpers' Union.
