Stoops, li.A, Minister of the Onehuiiga Congregational (Jhm-:ii, has resigned. He. proposes leaving on a visit to Knglaiid at the end of next month. _ Judge Sclli-Smith, chief of the Native L-iaid Court, was a passenger i'..r New Plymouth Ibis morning, accompanied by Mrs Seth-Sniitli. Judge MaeCormick, of the Native Land Court, also arrived by the boat. Mr \V. H. Hornby, for many years a resident of South Taranaki," and a whilom memlier of the New Plymouth Harbor Board, who is now living in the Old Country, is dangerously ill and not expected to recover. 'The body of the late Father Lewis, vicar-general of the archdiocese of Wellington, was buried yesterday at Kurori. The funeral was attended by an extraordinary huge number of mourners. Archbishop Redwood sang the requiem mass at the Basilica in Hill street, and preached a sermon on the text, "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord."
