The abortive attempts to push forward the loan proposals have, through irregularilies. diminished the Hoards funds by about one-eighth of the total year's income, a mum that will have been irreIricvably ki~f milo-w Hie loan proposals lire carried. Had that amount of money I'eeu expended iii metalling tmmelalle'd poiiions ot the district, the ratepayers would have had something to show' for their money. Xo good purpose will be served by belated criticism, and it is now for t lie ratepayers to calmly ami dNpa*sionnlely consider the proposals now before them before exercising their votes on Thursday. It may be argued that the management in the past has not heen such as to command the confidence of the ratepayers in entrusting the expenditure of some £2700 in their hands. It ia smty faii; is juM out, lu somliattiiig
tins argument, that an entirely now Jioarcl, with one exception, is now in ollici', and consists of business men who, we believe, may safely lie entrusted with the spending of the loan, should Hie proposal lie curried. There seems to lie every good reason why ratepayers should give their sanction "to this loan.
