Shore (llawcra), .1. .lohnsone (Kllhan) anil G. Osborne (Xew Plymouth) took part in the induction. In the evening a social was held in the Town Hall, and was well attended. Tile Moderator, I'ev. P. \\ ilson, presided, and congratulated the district on the progressive step taken. .Several items were rendered .by the choir, and the programme included—Duet, Misses Wurboys and Campbell; solos, .Misses Parkes and \\ arboys, Messrs Coombridge, Gray and Mildenhall. The accompaniments were played by Misses I'arkes, Pcttigrew and llicknian. During the evening ltev. McArthur thanked all who llad assisted in the induction. IvAUOTU. i The usual fortnigiilly progressive enehre party was held in aid of the lhill funds on Wednesday evening, and every available talde was occupied. Jt is evident that interest in these assemblies is increasing instead of diminishing. The prizes awarded were opera glasses for the winning lady, and fieldglasses for the gentleman. The winning lady proved to be Mrs ltobinson, whilst Jlr Moeller won the gentleman's prize, after a tie with Mr A. liakcr. The booby prizes were won by Miss Fly an and Mr 1'- Willcox". After supper the lia'l was cleared, and dancing was indulged in. Mr T. Willcox made an ellicient M-C., whilst excellent niu»ie was provided by Mrs Leng and Miss Morgan. .Mr E. .Maxwell, member of the Harbor Hoard, intends giving an address in the local hall in connection with the proposed borrowing of £300,000. Jt certainly seems good policy to push on the Xew Plymouth harbor as quickly as possible. On Saturday in the Coast football competition Pungarchu defeated Warea by 5 points to 3. Knpi scored a try for the winners, which Ilekc Martin converted, whilst Bruce Anderson kicked a penalty goal for the losers. Mr F. Bennic made an ellicient referee. Mr T. J. Yeates, who met with an accident here a few weeks ago, died ill the Xew Plymouth Hospital on Saturday. Deceased, who was an old settler, leaves a wife and five'children in somewhat straitened circumstances. A. su ; >- seription list has been circulated, and subscriptions are coining in freely towards this deserving object. KAI.U'.U. On loth due, our schoolmaster, ilr If. P.ocock, was united in the holy bonds of jiiatiiiiiiiiy to Miss .1011, of Uruti. On his return lie" was presented by the school children with a silver butter dish and biscuit barrel. Miss Olive Shoemark made the presentation. On the .Monday following a euchre party and dance took place at which Mr I'iocock was made the recipient of a stive'- teapot from the people of the district, Air W. .J. fshoeniark making the presentation in felicitous terms, Mi- Bocock suitably acknowledging. The party, which was a most happy one, broke up at about 3 o'clock in the morning with the song, '-For he's a Jolly Good Fellow." Air 11. okey addressed his constituents at the school and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks, ninny congratulating him oil his success at the election. Mr Shoemark presided. A resolution was passed tavoring further borrowing for harbor extension work. A social and dance take place tit the sehoolliouse on Thursday. A ladies' committee has the affair'in hand, a fact which ensures its success. dance will he held.
