When ' the coal lumper*' conference resumed, it was decided to conduct the proceedings with open doors. The coal lumpers submittal The following proposals :—Rates of pay—Diy work Is (id per iiour, overtime (excepting Saturday) 2s 3,1, Saturday 2*, afternoon to midnight ,'ls, abolition of Sunday work, payment for the time men , are kept waiting, that two men stuM not carry more than 7 yards, and recognition of the Coal Lumpers' UnionAfte a lengthy distußsion the lnmp?r- - delegates undertook to protect free laborers fn)m molestation, provided they engaged through certain recognised channels. The steam collier owners' and stevedores* delegates agreed to raise no oojection to free laborers joining, md the foremen lieing members of ..he Union. Discussing the rates of pay the I'nion delegates suggested letting the Arbitration award go, and fixing up an agreement independent of it. The employers' representative* claimed that the rates demanded were eqiui .to a 40 per cent, increase on present rates, and asked for time to consult other members of the Association. The Conference adjourned until romorrow.
