s THE MAYOR'S STATEMENT ACs CEPTED. ; -MINISTER ONLY LOOKING FOR THE j TRUTH. it will be remembered that the New L Plymouth, deputation and the Railway Department held a difference of opinion | concerning the extent to which the 1 Minister had committed himself in coniieeiion with the continuation of Moles- ; worth street to join St. Aubyn street, ; i In' Department having no record of -j. promise to open the street from Kawau street to the Huatoki stream. The .Mayor and Messrs C'ouuett and King were certain that the promise had licen made, and wrote to that effect. The following reply has readied the Mayor from the Railway Department:— "With reference to your letter of the ""it .lime, in respect to the extension of Molesworth street from Kawau street to (.lie Huatoki River, 1 have the honor to inform you that the Department is prepared to extend Molesworth street from Kawau street to the Huatoki River on condition that the Council is prepared to purchase at a price to lie agreed upon the necessary In nil for a si reel liti feet wide to connect St. Aubyn si reel, with Molesworth street, and will undertake to render the whole shwi suitable for traffic.
