AUSTRALIAN MAIL CONTRACT
VICTORIA WILL GIVE WHOLE GUARANTEE, Melbourne, June 14. The mail contract has developed another phage. . Victoria has now agreed to contribute the whole amount oi the guarantee ocbentures, with certiin stipulations which will exclusively benefit Victoria. The stipulations' include a first mortgage over the vessels, the guarantee to be inoperative till eight steamers are built. All possible repairs and victualling are to be done in Melbourne. Victoria is to have first call over 1200 ■tons of refrigerated space per vessel during the butter and fruit seasons.
She is also to have representation on the London and Melbourne Boards.
lie other States are to have the right to join within six months on paying, per capita, their share* of the guarantee.

Sir John Forrest announces, in connection with the mail contract, that the matter Is one rthat cannot be discussed and arranged between States and mail contractors. The Commonwealth will continue to devote itself to seeing that the terms of the mail contract it has entered into are carried out-
