Miss A. Brewster for some time past assistant in the Taranaki County Council's olliee, is resigning her position. The Rev. A. B. Wilson, of Perth, West Australia, has accepted a hearty and unanimous call to the pastorate of the Wanganui Baptist Church, and is expected to arrive iu Wanganui in August, .says a Press wire. Mr. If. Okey, M.11.1!., and Mrs. Okey wire entertained by the Eguiont Village electors on Tuesday evening. Mr. A. Morion presided, and with Messrs Hall, Trimble, and Marsh congratulated the new member on his return. Mr. Okey, in replying, referred to the necessity for cheeking tlie trend of labor legislation, and for reducing the cost of living. He said the wages of the workers had been increased; but the price of the necessaries of life had increased more than proportionately. The farmers did not want men to work at low wages, lie hoped to see the question of the New Plymouth breakwater extension come forward, for nothing could be done that would tend to benefit this district more than by pushing forward with that work with all possible speed, so as to allow oceangoing boats to call direct. He expressed his thanks for giving Mrs Okey and himself the opportunity of meeting them, and said it was his intention of getting among the electors as much as possible so that he might better ascertain their requirements. He desired to work for the people, and was willing to give his lime to this end.
