.1 _ 0 J" THE MIDNIGHT WEDDING. 1 No better proof of the people's verdict ■ oil Thursday night's portrayal, by the ' Mcynell and (innn Company, of the lat- • est and brightest melodrama produced in ' New Plymouth—tile Midnight Weddiug | —could be all'onled than the large nut | enthusiastic audience which again assembled at tlie Theatre Koyal to witness its reproduction. Jt was indeed an espeeial compliment to the merit of the piece to the acting and staging, that New I'lymouth should fill two houses in succession. Last night the circumstances of tile Midnight Wedding were portrayed and followed with even closer attention and expressed approbation than the opening night, if that were possible. If any especial favor were bestowed by the audience last night it was to Miss May Congdon (in a, 'difficult role) and the comedy work of Tom Cannon as "Private Bolio." ComiMV iiiid tragedy arc judiciously blended in the Midnight Wedding, and the audience suffers from no dearth of eonllieting emotions. To-night, the popular l'atal Wedding will be staged, and there is no need to bespeak its praises. The. company's presentation of this noted work some months ago is still fresh in the minds of New Plymouth theatre-goers, and it goes without saying that if any play of recent years will .bear repetition on" the local boards i< is that set down for New Plymouth's deiedation this evening.
