With reference to a telegram from Thames complaining of the exportation of llax roots to the New Hebrides and elsewhere, tho Minister of Lands has informed the Pobl that tho statement , that the lields arc being depleted is a wild rumor. A few roots, he said, might. * be exported, but that could not bo pre- * vented. Far greater harm was done (o> llax fields by careless owners allowing; cattle to stray over the ground thin by exporting roots. The Agricultural Department,' added ' Mr McNab, had been experimenting for some time with a view to encouraging the industry.
