I'er Press Association. Auckland, Juno 4. At the Supreme Court, John Bennett, a middle-aged man, was sentenced to three years' imprisonment for criminally assaulting a Maori girl, William James Lyons for perjury got six months'. Timaru, Juno 4.

At the Supreme Court to-day, the Grand Jury found true bills in the three cases presented, and two trials were completed. In one case Henry Clifford was convicted of the theft of n swag, aud having three previous convictions, was sentenced to six months, with hard labor, following four months imprisonment awaiting trial. In the cbbc of forgery and uttering at Methven, an alibi was proved, and tho prisoner was discharged. A case of assault with intent remains, and the noxt case will bo a motion for attachment of thirteen l'arcora slaughtermen's assistants for non-payment of the lines for striking, 'i'lie case will be defended.

Invercurgill, June 4. At tho Supreme Cisurt, John McFodden, a school teacher, charged with a false declaration to the Registrar regarding the age of a girl, of whose illegitimate child lie was the father, was sentenced to eighteen months', Ilia Honor stating that he had looked at all the circumstances, and uot simply at the offence with which he was charged. Prisoner who pleaded guilty, was a school teacher on the West Coast, anil the girl one of his pupils, and the false declaration was made at Wyndliam, where loth parties had removed. Alexander Malaclii Lenilian, found guilty of sending a threatening letter, was sentenced to one month.

Tho Grand. Jury found no bill in the case against Ed. Marshall, charged with cattle stealing. Ilis Honor complimented the district on the lightness of the calender. The criminal sessions have closed.
