VOGELTOWN STREET LIGHTING.
Mr C'. Carter, chairman of the Carringtou Road Board, waited on the Taaaliaki Comity Council ou Alondav, and stated that the ratepayers in that locality were anxious to have the mnin street lighted, but the Road Board appeared to have no legal power to expend its funds iu public lighting. Now, at last ineeting the Council had allotted a subsidy to the Road Board, and le had been asked by the ratepayers to wait npon the Council and ask if the cost of the lighting could be deducted from that subsidy and the balance hauded to the Board.
The chairman, Mr J. Brown, said there was to liis mind no difficulty, mid quoted set!ion 12 ol the "Counties Act Amendment Aet, 1!)();)," as follows: "The louueil may, in addition to (he [towers conferred liv the principal Aet, light any streets, roads, bridges, and other public places and public buildings within the counts'."
-Mr Carter asked if the Council would favorably consider a written application on these lines, and received an answer in tile affirmative.
