SCULLING.
SPORTSMAN'S SCULLING CUP. London, May 31. The trustees of the Sportsman's Cup have agreed that Towns forfeited the trophy in not complying with the conditions in respect to Barry's challenge, and will request him to return the cup.
GEORGE TOWNS' POSITION. ** l Received 2nd, 5.20 p.m. Sydney, June 2. George Towns is annoyed at the action of the Sportsman's Cup trustees. He declared he had never been properly notified of Barry's challenge, either by the trustees or-the challenger. His knowledge of it was gained from the newspapers, and he had cabled home practically accepting for next year, and had also written explaining the position. Had it not been for the race between Charlie and Webb, he would have gone Home straight away. The action ot the trustees upsets the whole of the arrangements for the visit of himself and his brother to England. Tom Sullivan, who has the custody of the cup, can hand it over if he likes, but if the trustees demand that he shall forfeit the trophy, neither he nor his brother will ever attempt to regain it. He has never received a challenge for the cup since he left England in 1000. He believes the trustees are annoyed because a message was received in England, purporting to come from him, stipulating that a race should be arranged for Charlie for the championship of the world when . ke, George, went to row for the Cup.
