TYPOCIIAPHICAL dispute. Per Press Association. Wellington, May 31. At the Arbitration Court it was announced that the city employers concerned in the typographical dispute had arrived at a settlement with the Union in regard to employees engaged in linotype work.* Mr Pirani, in reply to a statement by the secretary of the Union, disclaimed any intention of upsetting this agreement. * All he required was that the settlement should not be extended to machine compositors in the country. As a matter of fact, the men in tho country were i<! a much better position than the employees in the city. The Court ratified the agreement referred to above. It provides for payment by time, or piece ■work, a day's work to consist of not more than seven hours, and wages to be at the rate of £3 10s per week for day operators and £3 ltis for night operators. Provisioiris made for the employment of probationer operators nt the rale of £2 10s per.week for day work, nnd £2 Ids per week for night work, or Is Gd per hour for day and Is !)d per hour for night work. The agreement is binding on seven linns in the city. That portion of the union's demands relating to other branches of the trade will be dealt with in Court on June 25.
