NATIVE LANDS.

THE MOKAU LEASES. Per Press Association. Auckland, May 30. Mr Ormsbv, on behalf of the owners of liohepotae Maori lands, has submitted proposals to the Native Land Court asking, among other things, that sales of land to the Crown be discontinued in this district, and all restrictions removed from the lands of capable Maoris,

The Chief Justice said lie foresaw great difficulty in giving effect to this proposal. The system was open to abuse, lie thought another proposal to put up all lands for sale or lease by auction most desirable.

It was stated that 59,000 acres at Mokau leased to Mr Joshua Jones was lying idle. The natives asked the Government to take the land over and enforce the*terms of lease; but it transpired that the lease could not be found.
