Mr. Haldane modified the Army Bill, excluding State school scholars under lti from the operation of the clause empowering Country Associations to establish school cadet corps and rifle clubs.

With the assistance of the closure, the clause of the Army Bill-providing for the establishment of Country Associations for the purpose of assisting in the reorganisation and administration of th; j military forces, other than regulars, was carried.

An amendment providing for the retention of the existing system of militia was rejected by 200 to 80. An amendment excluding yeomanry from the control of Country Association's was also negatived.

BUTTER ADULTERATION BILL. Received 2!) th. 10.19 p.m. v London, May 20. The special committee on the Butter Bill agreed to Mr. Strathey's amendment recognised as butter substitute, all imitations of butter to be classed as war--garine.

A SHIPPING BILL. Received 29th, 10.19 p.m. London, May 29. In the House of Lords, Lord Amplhill's Bill extending to the owners of lighters, barges and like vessels the same protection as is given to shipowners, was read a second time, and then referred it to a select committee.
