MR HUGHES IN LONDON
, London, May 26. London Welshmen, including members of the House of Commons, leading commercial men, lawyers, and pressmen, |>anquetted Mr Hughes, tone of the Australian delegates to the Maritime Conference, at the National Liberal Club. , The Bight Hon. D. Lloyd-George, presiding, said Mr Hughes was a man of jwhom his countrymen were very proud. Mr "Hughes, responding, advocated cheaper cable rates and a cheaper transport service, which would do more than anything to promote good feeling.
MASS MEETING OF SEAMEN. Heceived May 28th, 12.54 a.m. London, May 27. A mass -meeting of seamen and waterside workmen at Poplar, adopted a resolution thanking Mr Hughes for flis great services to sedinen in connection with the Navigation Conference. \J£r Hughes explained the position of the Australian labour parties, and urged seamen to combine to improve their conditions, which at present were disgraceful. He declared lie felt humiliuteU when Englishment were willing to replace at Hamburg, Germans who liati Struck in order to obtain decent conli•tions.
