'Die City Council set up committees —one to consider and report on the desirability of negotiating with the Gas Company for the purchase of the. hitter's works, the other to consider whether the time has not arrived when a Local Bodies' Committee should acquire an area of land outside the city suitable and adequate to meet the prospective growth of the industrial and commercial interests of the Wellington province. In connection with the latter proposal it is suggested that there should be a comprehensive reclamation of the foreshore at Evans Bay to provide for gas works, ship and boat building, sawniilling, and other desirable industries,
