THE NEW ADJUTANT-GENERAL.
Per Press Association. Wellington, May 22. The Post slates that n leading authority in military circles in Wellington says it is certain that a mistake has been made in connection with the cablegram from Sir Joseph Ward announcing the selection of a British Army officer for the position of Adjutant-General hi New Zealand. The messages stated that Major Inson had been selected. There is no such name on the Army List, and our informant inclines to the belief that the officer chosen is Major E. St. ft. Anson, who served in the. South African war, and was present at several notable engagements during that campaign, including the relief of Ladysmith, and operations at Colcnso, Spion Kop, Vanl Krantz, Tugela Heights, and Laing's Nek. For his services during the war he received the Queen's medal with four clasps, and the King's medal with two clasps.
