The competition was exceedingly keen in th< open classes, and very great interest was aroused owing to the fact I hat there was such a very large entry list. The competition for grading points on this season's output lias concluded, hut the results in this class, which carries with it the Weddel (.'up, will not be announced till Thursday. .Factories from many dillcreiit parts of the colony arc competing in the open classes for export, anil litis contest was recognised as a trial of strength for New Zealand. The result is the awajding of the Championship to Whit ford I'ark Factt.rv (Auckland), which secured !l»i/ 5 J points, the highest in the show. In the two export classes, open to all factories tin New Zealand, the Auckland factories take the lead. One of the most interesting points is that the total entries in the butter section number 100. "It is undoubtedly the largest butter show yet held in the colony," says the Herald, "or, at any rate, the export section is by far 1 and awav the largest yet held in Now ' Zealand." In the export classes alone '. there were 11!) entries, aud the competitors were restricted to one entry in each [ class. Moreover, these figures do not_ include the entries in the grading points competition, in which all the principal 1 factories in Auckland are competing. The Paliuerston North show, which was ', hitherto considered to lie the largest but- ' ter show in the colony has 1)2 entries in the export class. The first class is one for two boxes of export butter, open to all factories in New Zealand, the butter being taken out of the grading stores by official* appointed by the Auckland A. and P. Association at a date in March last. Prizes .-UK), £5, C 3, £2, and five of £l. Twenty-nine entries. Opotik'i Dairy Association (Bay of Plenty)', 04 points 1 Bell Block Dairy Co. (Taranaki), 03'/. points 2 Alpha Dairy Co. (Ormoudville, Hawke's Bay), 03 points 3 Maketawa Co-operative Dairy (Inglcwood, Taranaki), I)2Ms points .. .. 4 For the five other prizes, the following factories were equal, all scoring 90:— Whakatane (Bay of Plenty), Ambuvy and English (Frankton, Wnikato), Rangitikei (Wellington) and Midhirst (Taranaki). The second class is for two boxes of export butter manufactured under most favorable conditions, delivered to grading stores before the end of March. Open to nil factories in New Zealand. First £7, second £5, third £2, fourth £l. Twenty-nine entries. Whit ford Park Factory, Auckland (U. R. Duwden, maker), 05'/ s points 1 Bay of Plenty Factory, at Tepuke, near Tauranga. 94 points 2 Pihama Factory, Taranaki, For fourth, Kaponga Factory (Taranaki) and Midhirst (Taranaki) tied with U3.
The third class is one for one box of export butter, open only to factories outside Auckland province. Prizes, £7, .t'o, £2, and £l. Ten entries, including one from Canterbury. Taranaki scooped the three first awards. Moa Farmers' Factory (Inglewood), f)4 points 1 Midhirst Factory, 93'/ 3 points .... 2 Kaponga Factory, !)3 points ...... 3 Rnngitikci Factory, Wellington, was fourth, with 92% points.
The fourth class, for a box of butter for export, open only members of the Auckland "Dairymen's Association. 28 entries. Prizes £lO, £,">, £3, £2. 'Die awards were: Whitford Park, 95 points 1 Matakana, North Auckland, 94 points 2 Bay of Plenty, 93>/ 2 points ...:.. 3 Opotiki, 9.1 points 4 lu the fanners' export class, open to all registered dairies in New Zealand, nineteen entries, F. Summers, of Tanaentuii (Auckland) was first, Mrs. M. A. Short, Awaliiti (Auckland) second, nnd 11. Stokes, Ruakaka, third. The Championship of New Zealand, with gold medal and certificate, was won by 1!. R. Dowden, maker of the Whitford Park exhibit, which scored !).j|/. points.
