FITZROY TOWN BOARD.
The Fitzroy Town Board met on Monday night. Present: Messrs W. Cutfield (chairman), Jackson. M. Ramson. W. Griffiths and L. Steele. HAGIXSOX'S POXD. In regard to the request of Mr Ilai;insou to have the silt from the main road for filling the pond on his property, Mr Sladdcn (engineer) advised the Hoard as to the means of draining the pond.
It was pointed out that the deepening ' of the pond by the owner of the ground ' had interfered with the natural flow of I the water, and acting on that advice ' it was decided that the chairman inter [ view Mr Haginson, and inform him that ] the Hoard cannot see its way to take c any steps in the matter. [ PIGS AND POULTRY. ( Mr C. S. Sycamore having applied for '■ permission to keep a pig and poultry run '■ on the premies of the late bacon factory j at Fitzroy, the matter was referred by ; the Board to Mr Kendall sanitary iti- ■ spector. Mr Keidall reported that it ' was, in his opinion, extremely imuhis- ' able to allow Mr Sycamore to obtain permanent footing in the locality for ' the purposes he named. In the' first place Mr Sycamore was a minor, 17 years of age, and to grant a permit at the present time might create peculiar complications should it be necessary during the four years to take action against him for public safely. Secondly, the principal'and probably most offensive material which the applicant would have to deal with would lie offal the treatment of which would without doubt, in hot weather give rise to very offensive odors. Thirdly, the relatively short distance of the proposed site from several dwellings would give rise to many and never-ending complaints from the residents in "the locality and would be a constant source of trouble. On his first visit he" had found the premises in an unsatisfactory state but there was an improvement on his second visit. ''There is no doubt," concluded the. report, "that with certain winds this location for ofl'al-boilin: would always give trolde, and I would therefore strongly recommend that Mr Sycamore's time here be cut as shorl as possible as if allowed, the propsed business will be a perennial source of annoyance. Correspondence with the Health Department was read. The Board decided not to grant tae permit asked for. RATWAY DEVIATIONS The clerk reported that the railway authorities had fenced the roadway and generally attended to Hie safety of the Devon road at the railway works. Mr Sladden reported on the prnpo-a! to re-grade the Devon road near the railway deviation, and it. was decided to have the work done, and to leave the matter in the hands of the engineer to I carry out. I ' NOXIOUS WEEDS. Mr Steele moved, and Mr Griffiths Seconded, that the Board adopt the second schedule of the Xoxious Weeds Act. so as to include all the weeds <!■>. I elared since the schedule was made. ADJUSTMENT OF ACCOUNTS. On the motion of Mr Rams-on, seconded by Mr Griffiths, the chairman and Mr Jackson, with the clerk (Mr C. V. Foote) were appointed to meet the County Council to settle the apportionment of account-. GENERAL. It was decided to authorise Mr V. ('. - Griffiths to put the whole of the street f lamps in order, l The engineer will be instructed fo r have necessary repairs made to Rimu »' street, near the big filling, i' Accounts amounting to W> Rs 0,1 r were passed for payment, and the Board e .adjourned fill June 14lh. when esti- - mates.will be framed.
