AUSTRALIAN IMMIGRATION
A DISCUSSION IN LONDON. Received 19th, 4.28 p.m. London, May 18. A deputation representing Kinloch Cook's Central Emigration Board and other emigration agencies, several of the Agents-General and Lord Banfurly, waited oil ill'. Deakin, and discussed the advisability of co-operative action. Mr. Deakin explained that if the States supply land, and undertake to look after immigrants on arrival, the Commonwealth Government would do the advertising and assist in every way. Other colonial speakers indicated that Australians in London juterested in emigration wished to take advantage of the present favorable juncture to advance the cause. After discussion., file opinion appeared to prevail that it would be better to try to arrange for co-operation between the various scattered agencies through the central emigration board. It is intended to invite the Agents-General to assist the board with advice and information.
