At Addinglon market to-day there were very large entries for all casses of sheep and a fair yarding of other classes |of stock.
There was a large yarding of fat sheep. including some very prime lines of wethers and ewes, but a considerable proportion of t'ue latter were of doubtful age and backward in condition. All prime sheep sold well, prime wethers and best of ewes being well conipeted for. Prices for these were firm. Other soils were more irregular. Range of prices—Prime wethers 20s to 245, extra to 27s (id, lighter 16s !ld to 19s (id, primes ewes 18s Od to 21s 6d, medium 15s to 18s, aged 10s Od to 14s Od, merino wethers 14s 4d. The entry of fat cattle totalled 281, a large proportion being rough sorts. The sale was somewhat irregular, though prices were about on a par with last week. A line of 32 cows and heifers from the North Island made £7 to £lO 10s, and 18 steers from F. and J. 0. Coop (Little River) £6 17s 6d to £1) 15s. Other steers brought £G 5s to £lO 10s, heifers £4 12s Cd to £lO, cows £4 to £7 ss, equal to 22s Od to 25s for prime and 20s to 22s for medium per 100 lbs. quality. .
There was a small mixed entry of store cattle and poor demand was shown. Yearlings were sold at 17s, 15 to 18 mouths old passed at £1 10s 6d, 2 year old steers passed at £2 05,22 2 year steers passed at £2 13s 6d to £3 2s (id, dry eowa brought 20s to £3. Dairy eows—A fair entry, some bring ing £4 to £8 15s. Pigs were in short supply, and there was a sharp advance in prices, especially for porkers. Baconers made 45s to 503. heavier weights 53s to 60s, equal to 4%d to od per lb; porkers 30s to 425, equal t'> s</ 2 d to 6d per 11), medium stores 12s to 18s, weaners 7s to 12s.
BURNSIDE STOCK MARKET. Per Press Association. Dunedin, May 15. At Bumside 233S sheep were penned. There was but moderate entry, consisting of medium wethers and ewes. For real good mutton and heavy wethers last week's prices were fully maintained, but for ordinary wethers and ewes values were easier. Quotations:—Extra heavy •24s to 2"s lid, prime wethers 21s to 235, medium to good 18s to 21s (id, light 15s (ill to 17s Cd. heavy ewes 255, prime 10s to 235, medium to good 15s to 17s (id, aged and inferior Us to 12s (id, two extra pens of very heavy ewes 2(is 3d, one small pen of wethers 30s. Lambs—lol3 penned. The bulk of the yarding was made up of only moderate. quality, with several special pens of extra good. The demand for real good sorts for export purposes was keen, and prices realised showing an advance, best sorts fetching up to ISs (id, extra l!)s to 20s (hi, medium lis Od to Us, others Ss !td to lis.
Pigs—l lil yarded. The demand ior small pigs was much easier, poorer sorts being difficult to quit and selling at greatly reduced prices. Prime quality baeouers and porkers commanded good prices. Suckers (is to 10s, slips lis Ud to 15s, stores His (id to Ids (id. light baconers £3 3s to £3 IDs, porkers £2 Is to £2 3s, choppers up to 80s. Cattle—2l3. The yarding was of mixed sorts, not much good being offered. One extra good bullock £ll 2s fill, best bullocks £9 to £lO 10s. medium £7 to £!l. best heifers £(i 10s to £B, medium £5 to £fi os.
WAIEARAPA STOCK MARKET. Masterton, -May ].">. Alirahams and Williams.. Ltd.. report on their Masterton stock sale to-day as follows:—In sheep a heavy yarding was submitted to a good attendance of buyers. Competition tor all classes, except poor sorts of ewes in lamb, was keen. and prices showed an increase on those ruling at late sales. Several lots of extra good quality lambs were offered, and we had no difficulty in topping the market so far this season. All wether* submitted met with a ready sale, as did empty ewes for turnips. The cattle yarded were mixed sorts, and although the letter quality in all classes sold at full rates, inferior lots were hard to (put. Sheep —Good turnip wethers 17s to 17s 7d, fat ewes (best) 18s, others 14s UJd to 15s ltd, forward ewes 13s to 14s lOd, store ewes 9s to lis, ewes in lamb (medium) lis to 13s, best lambs Ms to 15s Bd, others lis 3d to 14s 4d, medium sorts 9s to 10s fid, ewe lambs 12s (id to 13s 2d. Cattle—Fat cows £3 10s to £4 Bs, cows and calves £2 18s to £3 7s fid. store cows 30s to £2 as, cows in calf £1 5s to £3 7s fid, heifers in calf £2 10s to €3, 18 month steers £2 to £2 Bs. 2\U year steers £3 to £3 12s fid, bullocks £4 5s to £5 ss. Auckland, May 15. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report,:— Horses: Heavy draughts at from £32 10s to C 4 us, medium do. £l9 15s to £2B, hacks aud light harness horses ,-C'! 10s to £lB.
At Pukekohe on Wednesday we had an average yarding of stock of all descriptions, which sold at late rates. Dairy cows sold at from £3 10s to £6, daily heifers £3 5s to £5 15s, empty cows £1 15s to £3 10s„ grown steers £4 10s to £5 as, two to three year old do. .€2 5s to £4 Is; calves los to £1 os. Beef sold at Newmarket rates. Cattle —At the Xewmarket yards on Tuesday, dairy cows sold at from £4 10s to £fi 17s (id, empty cows £1 15s to £2 18s, calves 15s to £1 7s, grown steers £4 as to £5 10s. Beef was again yarded in full quantities and sold at fully last week's rates, oxen selling at 21s per 1001b, cow 17s to 19s. Steers sold at from £6 5s to £lO 15s, cows £1 5s to £7 ss. The beef cattle were not up to last week's quality, being mostly light weights. Sheep—Wethers sold at from 18s !)d to £1 3s 9d, lfjs fid to £1 5s for a pen of extra wcll-fatted, hoggets 10s M to 18s. Pigs—Porkers sold at from lis (id to £1 3s, weaners 3s fkl to ss, baconers CI 17.5 ',o C2 Bs. We submitted a large catalogue of hides, skins and tallow on Tuesday, all lines l>cing sold under keen competition. Hides—Market firm.
