Mr. 11. Obey, M.H.K. for Taranaki. •spent some lime at the Fanners' Vnion ('onl'eiciice yesterday afternoon. In congratulating the new member on his victory. Hie chairman said that his return was the more pleasing as he was the only farmer nominated. Thev didn t know puriy politics altogether, but they knew a farmer, and knew how a farmer would vote. Mr. Okey briefly thanked •Mr. Forsyth and the other delegates for their reception of him, and promised to be a working member, always ready to help either town or country, or both. He trusted to he such a useful member that at the end of 18 months the electors would not desire a change. Concluding, he said the bye-election was fought anil won on the Land Bill, and the greatest shock to the Land Bill was the result of the election. He was sure that if the farmers maintained their opposition to the measure they would soon hear the last of it. The short address was warmly applauded.
