Nathan, President of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, expressed pleasure at the receipt of a cable regarding renewing the, mail service: "I think that the service is wilhin the region of possibility," he said, "and it would be of immense benefit to the colony." "What, do you think would be a fair subsidy from this colony »"
"1 think we should oiler .-050,000. The service is really what we have- been looking for for many years—a fast All lied route as we now'liave the All British cable." Mr. A. B. ,7. Irvine, local manager of the Union Company, which may be a partner in the new service, knew nothing about it.
"Do you think a twenty-day service is possible?" he was asked".
"YYclk you, know, nothing is impossible with the ships they are building nowadays. If you are prepared to consume hundreds of tons of coal a dav, you can gel what speed you like. The question is, Is it worth it?"
-Mr. V. A. Sproule, Mew Zealand superntendent of the Oceanic Company, thinks the proposition quite feasible.
