—° -*>■ — 1 Per Press Association. [ Wellington, May 10 , The adjourned inquest eouccrniug the \ death of Mrs Hliza Hell, the victim of . the .Brooklyn tramway accident, was . continued to-day, the evidence . taken of the motor-man, conductor, and expert witnesses. The evidence indicated that tlic brakes had not been pro--1 perly applied. It appears that Ken . lirst applied the magnetic brake to check ' the car's descent, bin it tailed. Jle then operated the hand brake, but tlic car had acquired such speed that it failed, too, anil the third emergency brake could hot avert the capsize. The theory of the enugiiieev-in-chief and the ; Government electrician is that on starting down the hill, the motornian had the r reversing lever in the wrong position, 1 which had the eli'ect of tlirowiii" the 1 magnetic brake out of action. The ■ motor-man, in bis evidence, said r was nervous about taking ears over the Brooklyn line owing io apprehension ' about a possible mishap to tile gear. The inqucft stands adjourned till tomorrow.
