EMIGRANT SHIP DISASTER
FRENCH STEAMER WRECKED. SPANISH EMIGRANTS PANICSTRICKEN. • FIFTEEN DROWNED. , Received tfth, 10.5'J p.m. Paris, May 9. The -French steamer Poittof, from Marseilles for Buenos Ayres, was wrecked off Cape Santa Marina during a gale. The passengers were chiefly Spanish emigrants, and many became panic - stricken and tried to swim ashore. Fifteen were drowned, and two hundred have been saved. Nearly one hundred women were battened (town below at the moment of the disaster. The work of rescue is proceeding.
