London, March * Extraordinary scones of panic wore witnessed yesterday at a fire which broke out at the mill of Messrs .1. MeCnnn.dl and Co.. T,-.d.. in the Ancots district of Manchester.
Tlieiv were about forty-live girls in the section whore the fire occurred, and ne.irly 350 K irl s in the whole building. When the flames were seen, those in the immediate vicinity commenced to screun and rushed into other depart[nients seeking .o escape. .Some of -the [girls smashed (]„. windows, ami in that J way reached the street, while others I fainted.
I Order was soon restored, and the firm's tire brigade got to work. The automatic sprinklers were also started, and, with the assistance of the city brigade, the flames were quickly subdued. The damage was not considerable, ami work was resumed in the afternoon.
